The Ngoni’s Origin:
Traditionally, the instrument was called Donso Ngoni, or “Hunter’s Harp”. It came from the Wassoulou region in the Mali Empire of West Africa, with a long history throughout many years.
It was first reported in 1352, when Abu Battutah, a Moroccan traveler saw the instrument in the court of Mansa Musa, the ninth ruler of the Mali Empire who reigned between 1312-1337 AD.
